Bled

Updated: Jan 24, 2022

Bled is a resort town in Northwestern Slovenia, set along its breathtaking glacial Lake Bled in the foothills of the Julian Alps.

🔷 The Castle

On a steep cliff overlooking stunning views of mountains and the Lake is the Bled Castle, built in the 11th century, housing a chapel, a museum and a medieval printing press. Entrance to the castle costs €15.

🔶 The Church

The Castle chapel with its beautiful frescos depicting German king Henry II and his wife Kunigunde is a gothic chapel dedicated to Bishops St Albuin and St Ingenuin.

🔷 The Printing Press

Experience the art of traditional manual printing and get your name printed on a Bled century old paper for €8.

🔶 The Lake

The bluish-green lake is located in the Julian Alps where it adjoins the town of Bled.

You can board a traditional pletna boat to reach the church topped island, which happens to be the only island in Slovenia. On reaching the Island, you ascend 99 stone steps to reach the church known as the Assumption of Mary. You listen to the church bells and also get to ring it yourself. Legend has it that ringing the bells makes your wishes come true.

🔷 Slovenia’s favorite Dessert

Spoil yourself to the Slovenian delight, an authentic Bled cream cake, while you sit taking in the sun and views of the Bled Castle and lake Bled.

If you would like to spend a day or two in Bled, there are many other activities and tourist attractions you can see, whether you are in town for a ski holiday or to enjoy the summer sun.

You can visit the Vintgar gorge or Bled Gorge, the Dino park, Iglica falls, the cave under Babji zob or go hiking in the mountains.

Whatever your thrill be, Bled has an activity for everyone.
